Life has confronted Tayeb ait Ighenbaz, a shepherd in the Atlas area, to make one of the most difficult decisions of his life... to save his parents or his 11-year-old son. On Friday evening when that tragic shake was recorded, he saw his parents and son under the rubble.
"Everything happened so fast. When the earthquake happened, we all ran to the door. My father was sleeping and I shouted to my mother to come, but she stayed back to wait for him," he recalls.
On the other hand, Ighenbaz could only see his wife and daughter as they left the house.
As he returned to the destroyed building, Tayeb found his son and his parents trapped under the rubble. He could see the boy's hand reaching out for help.
He knew he had to act fast and headed towards the boy, Adam, digging desperately through the rubble to pull him out.
When he turned to his parents, trapped under a large stone slab, it was too late.
"I had to choose between my parents and my son," he says with tears in his eyes.
“I could not help my parents because the wall fell on their bodies. It is very sad. I saw my parents die.”
Tayeb points to the stains on his jeans, saying that this is his parents' blood. The earthquake took everything, and now he has no clothes to change, but he has been carrying his parents' blood for days.
