Acute hepatitis is reaching alarming proportions, the number of infected

The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, in the latest grouped data on acute hepatitis, has stated that an increase in the number of infected children has been observed.

According to the ECDC, the number of cases of acute hepatitis in children who have previously been healthy in the European Economic Area is increasing.

As of April 20, 111 cases had been registered in Britain and as of April 27, about 55 more cases had been reported in the 12 countries of the European Economic Area.

New cases have also been reported in the United States, Israel and Japan. Meanwhile, the data so far show that most of the patients have recovered, but a number of them had to have a liver transplant.

The head of the European regulator, Andrea Ammon, said during the week that the exact figure behind the hepatitis cases is not yet known.

Health authorities have said that since the pathogen is not yet known, the risk to the child population cannot be assessed at this time.
