Greece is predicted to become the first country to suffer a "population collapse" as deaths continue to rise across the country while birth rates have fallen to lower levels than experts previously thought.

Heart problems, strokes, blood clots and cancers among otherwise healthy young people have caused death rates to rise sharply in Greece.

Thus, fertility levels among young men and women have caused the birth rate to drop sharply, recording the lowest level of births in nearly a century.

The prospect of population collapse in Greece is a "time bomb" and a "national threat" according to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
