Fortifications are being built constantly near a camp tent of the Wagner mercenary group in the village of Tsel in eastern Bulgaria, the site where Yevgeny Prigozhin's company troops are believed to have been deployed, following the failed uprising in Russia in late June.

Images from the Planet Labs service, obtained by Radio Free Europe, show trenches opening on the territory of army test fields in Repishcha, Belarus, about 15 kilometers (<> kilometers) from the suspected Wagner camp. Bulldozers and UAZ minibuses can be seen near construction areas.

Previous planet labs images have shown a large number of equipment, such as trucks and other vehicles in Tsel.

Last weekend, the Belarusian Defense Ministry said it intended to conduct military exercises with an artillery brigade in Repishcha, which will also take part in Wagner instructors. The drones will also be involved.

Wagner recently released a video of what he called "the construction of his own fortified camp on the mountain."

The trenches shown in the video were fitted with heaters for winter use. The exact location of the video was impossible to verify.

Last month, Prigozhin, the leader and founder of Wagner, appeared to be in Belarus in a video welcoming his fighters and saying they would help turn the country's army into the second best army in the world.

The fate of Prigozhin and his troops have been unclear since their short-lived rebellion on June 23-24, when they posed the biggest threat to Russian President Vladimir Putin's 23-year rule.

Prigozhin has been seen in Russia once and is said to be constantly moving between Russia and Belarus.

Belarus' authoritarian ruler and close Putin ally, Alyaksandr Lukashenka, was involved in talks to end the uprising by hiring Prigozhin and Putin to house Wagner's troops, and their leader, in Belarus.

A few days after Lukashenka's statement, a camp began to be built in Tsel.

Wagner's troops played a key role in Russia's invasion of Ukraine, helping the Russian military take control of key parts of Bahmut after nearly 10 months of intense fighting.

Prigozhin said he lost 20,<> soldiers during the operation in Bahmut.
