Turkey has denied allegations that its fighter jets were conducting unauthorized military flights over the Greek islands and accused Greece of "provocative flights" near the Turkish continent, the AP reports.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry said the Greek allegations "did not reflect the truth", insisting that Greek military planes repeatedly violated Turkish airspace over the southwestern cities of Didim, Datca and Dalaman.
The Turkish ministry called on Greece to "stop provocative actions and rhetoric" and to support the recently resumed negotiations aimed at building trust between the two countries.
Turkey and Greece have been in dispute over sea and air border for many years and disputes have intensified over exploring potential natural gas reserves in the Mediterranean.
The dispute has resulted in almost daily patrols by aviation forces and wiretapping missions, mostly in the disputed airspace around the Greek islands off the Turkish coast.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said Thursday that he had reported to NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg on Turkish incursions into Greek airspace, including unauthorized flights over several major Greek islands.
The Greek Foreign Ministry on Wednesday handed over a note of protest to the Turkish ambassador in Athens over unauthorized military flights, the agencies said.
