Finland today took over the presidency of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and according to announcements from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Helsinki, Ukraine will be the central topic of the Finnish OSCE presidency.
Resilience, the ability to respond to and recover from crises are topics that have received increasing attention among OSCE members, due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, according to the presidency's priorities.
Finland aims to make full use of the wide range of tools available to the OSCE. Particular attention will be paid to the topics of cybersecurity, media freedom and literacy, support for human rights defenders and climate security, while Finland will focus on gender equality and inclusion.
This includes strengthening engagement with civil society, especially young people and people with disabilities. Regarding political-military issues, Finland will chair the Forum for Security Cooperation during the last quarter of this year.
