German authorities have warned of the possibility of Iranian retaliation in Europe following the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
The head of the parliamentary committee for oversight of secret services in Germany, Marc Henrichmann, stated that retaliatory actions cannot be ruled out, including those by Iranian secret cells operating on European territory.
"The Iranian regime has repeatedly proven in the past that it exercises terror beyond its borders," Henrichmann told the Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper, stressing that security measures must be adapted and strengthened if the need arises.
Meanwhile, the German government's envoy for the fight against anti-Semitism, Felix Klein, warned of a possible increase in threats against Jewish targets in Germany.
"It is expected that Iran will use its networks in this country to carry out terrorist attacks against Jewish and Israeli centers," Klein told the Funke Mediengruppe media group.
German authorities are closely following developments, while the security situation in Europe is considered tense following the recent escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.
