New York City officials and the FBI have launched an investigation into "an ISIS-inspired act of terrorism" after the attempted use of two homemade explosives near the official residence of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

The devices could have caused serious injury or death, New York police said. The suspects were identified as 18-year-old Emir Balat and 19-year-old Ibrahim Kayumi, both from Pennsylvania. Recall that yesterday, New York Police found an improvised explosive device near the residence of Mayor Zoran Mamdani, during a protest held on Saturday in the Manhattan area.

According to authorities, the incident occurred near Gracie Mansion, the official residence of the city's mayor. At the time, an anti-Muslim protest organized by a white supremacist group was taking place in the area, while a larger number of counter-protesters had also gathered in the same area.

During the clash between the groups, two men suspected of being part of the counter-protesters threw an incendiary device near the police forces and left another device nearby. According to preliminary investigations, the devices consisted of fuse jars filled with pieces of wood and metal screws.
