As all the attention is focused on the presidential elections that are taking place, a serious event has taken place in France.

A person stabbed a priest and a nun while shouting: We have to kill Macron.

The priest, named Father Christophe, was stabbed 20 times, while an elderly nun is also learned to have been stabbed in the hand while trying to protect the priest at the church of Saint-Pierre-d'Arène in Nice.

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said the priest's life was not in danger, despite reports that he is in critical condition. He added that the 31-year-old author has already been handcuffed, British media report.

Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi revealed that the attacker has been subject to psychiatric monitoring.

He has stayed on several occasions at Sainte-Anne Hospital for patients with mental illness.
