New details about Ervin Mata's arrest: He secretly entered Brazil by sea,
Ervin Mata

For more than two years, Interpol Tirana had provided information that Ervin Mata was hiding in Brazil, where he was arrested with the aim of extradition to our country.

The 39-year-old lived between Brazil and Paraguay.

At the time of his arrest, Mata handed over to local police forged Paraguayan documents with a birthplace in the United Kingdom, a means of identification that expired in 2030.

Mata also possessed other suspected forged documents, such as a Bulgarian identity card and passport, expired in 2024.

During the arrest in the suburbs of São Paulo, he was caught with several other citizens, part of the drug trafficking.

Described as a "magnate" (drug boss), he was arrested in a police operation in Ilhabela, on the northern coast of Sao Paulo, on behalf of authorities in Germany, and is also wanted by Albania.

"A man was found in a shopping mall after an operation by the Military Police; he is suspected of involvement in international drug trafficking and could be extradited. Ervin Mata was arrested on Saturday evening (25), in Ilhabela, on the North Coast of São Paulo, after an operation by the Military Police. He was considered a fugitive from justice for involvement in international drug trafficking and criminal collaboration," Brazilian media reported.

Another important detail was that the arrest warrant for Ervin Mata was issued by Judge Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) in September of last year.

According to the arrest warrant, the suspect is alleged to have coordinated, with accomplices, the trafficking of 240 kilograms of cocaine on September 29, 2020, in the city of Frankfurt, Germany.

"I hereby order the preventive detention of Ervin Mata, determining the issuance of an arrest warrant, the execution of which must be immediately communicated to this Supreme Court, the Ministry of Justice, Interpol and the diplomatic mission of the relevant state," the decision states.

The arrest in Ilhabela came after intelligence information indicated that Mata was traveling towards the North Coast. During monitoring, police identified that he had used alternative routes, including traveling by sea to Ilhabela.

Mata has been internationally wanted by SPAK since 2023 for involvement in the trafficking of large quantities of cocaine and leading a structured criminal group that operated in several countries.
