Prolonged coronavirus has already become the focus of researchers who are analyzing data that is being received from hospitalized patients.
According to a British study it turns out that only one in four patients with Covid-19 fully recovered within a year of hospitalization, where among other things it is warned that long-term Covid may become a common condition.
The study, presented at the European Conference on Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ECHMID) and published in The Lancet Respiratory Medicine, used data from adult patients admitted to 39 hospitals in the UK from 7 March 2020 to 18 April 2021 .
The study included about 2300 patients and examined the recovery of 807 of them five and 12 months after they were released from the hospital.
Only 26% of them reported that they had fully recovered five months after hospitalization, with a slight increase to 28.9% 12 months after hospitalization.
According to research results, women are 33% less likely to fully recover than men, while overweight people are half as likely to fully recover than normal weight patients. At the same time, those who needed a ventilator during their treatment are 58% less likely to be completely cured.
Among the most common long-term symptoms of Covid reported by patients were fatigue, muscle aches, sleep disturbances, respiratory distress, and decreased physical activity.
