The last bunker in the world

A $300 million luxury bunker complex, designed to protect ultra-wealthy clients from disasters, has been uncovered by defense and design experts.

Scheduled to open in 2026, Virginia-based company Strategically Armored & Fortified Environments (SAFE) says the bunkers will be able to house 625 people and the price of a "Project Aerie" unit will be up to $20 million.

So, ordinary people will not have access to such a nuclear disaster bunker.

Recall that the wealth of billionaires increased by two trillion dollars in 2024 - the equivalent of $5.7 billion per day - while global inequality reached unprecedented proportions, according to a report by Oxfam International.

"Project Aerie," named after a resting place for birds of prey, will offer a network of luxury residential bunkers in 50 US cities.

According to their website, the facilities will "provide robust protection against the most severe threats, including nuclear radiation and electromagnetic pulses."

The first location will open in Virginia, near Washington, DC, and will cost $300 million to build, housing 625 of the world's wealthiest people in the event of a global disaster.

Individual bunkers will cost up to $20 million apiece. Customers will be able to enter the fortress whenever they feel their safety is at risk.

The underground complex will include medical care and wellness programs powered by artificial intelligence. It will also feature gourmet restaurants, an indoor pool, and more.

Describing the centers, SAFE wrote: “Advanced robotic services provide superior medical care and emergency care, regardless of location.” Al Corbi and Naomi Corbi, founder and president of SAFE, and their director of medical preparedness, spoke to Realtor.com and described the different membership levels.

The cheapest package can be afforded by “moderately successful executives,” while the highest level, “Asylum Membership,” will be available by invitation only.
