At least one person was killed and eight others were wounded after five explosions rocked an Iran-backed military base in Iraq that houses army troops and former pro-Iranian paramilitaries from Hachd al-Chaabi, integrated into the forces Iraqi regular.
This was revealed to the international media by two Iraqi security sources. An official of the Ministry of Internal Affairs specified that as a result of the attack there was "one dead and eight wounded" among the base forces.
The explosions occurred at a site belonging to the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), according to Muhannad al-Anazi, a member of the Security Committee in Babylon Governorate, south of the capital Baghdad.
The explosions near the Iraqi capital of Baghdad come a day after attacks against a military base in Isfahan, Iran. A US official told CNN that Israel was responsible for the attacks in Iran.
Israeli and US officials said neither was involved in the blast. US Central Command explained to X that "the United States is not conducting airstrikes in Iraq today." In a brief post, Centcom said it was aware of "reports that the US has conducted strikes in Iraq, but this information is false," the command added.
In a video posted on social media, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq announced that it had launched several drones against "a vital target" in Eliat, in southern Israel, on the border between Egypt and Jordan. "The attack - emphasizes the group that unites a number of Iraqi pro-Iranian forces - is a response to the violation of the sovereignty of Iraq by the Zionist enemy and to its attack against the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF)".
