Shocking accident in Italy: 6 people lose their lives, 30 others are injured

A serious road accident was recorded today, August 2, on State Road 79 "Ternana", in the Colli sul Velino area, in the province of Rieti, near the border with the Umbria region.

According to local media reports, a bus, a van and three vehicles were involved in the accident. The toll is tragic: 6 people have lost their lives, while over 30 others have been injured. Three of the injured are reported to be in serious condition and have been urgently transported to hospitals.

The accident occurred on the road connecting the cities of Rieti and Terni, between the intersections of Colli sul Velino and Piediluco, near Lake Ventina, at the exit of the Greccio tunnel.

According to initial reports, the head-on collision between the van, which was traveling in the direction of Terni, and the bus, which was traveling in the opposite direction towards Rieti, was particularly violent. After the collision, three other vehicles were also involved, whose drivers were unable to avoid the accident.

As a result of the collision, one of the vehicles was almost completely destroyed, while another was overturned. Emergency teams, firefighters and law enforcement immediately arrived at the scene. The bus passengers were evacuated, while some of them were injured and treated for shock.

Emergency helicopters have also been deployed to transport the most seriously injured to hospitals in the regions of Umbria and Lazio. A Civil Protection camp has also been set up in the Municipality of Terni.

The road has been closed in both directions to facilitate rescue operations and ensure safety. Traffic has been diverted to the Colli sul Velino and Piediluco intersections, causing long queues and delays for drivers. The causes and circumstances of the accident are still under investigation.
