On the 50th anniversary of his death, a third group of experts will try to determine whether a toxin found in the remains of the 1971 Nobel Prize in Literature was the cause of death of Chile's most famous poet, Pablo Neruda.

He died on September 23, 1973, two weeks after the coup that overthrew the government of Salvador Allende (1970-1973).

Five years earlier, the second set of experts had confirmed that Ricardo Neftali Reyes (Neruda's real name) had not died of the prostate cancer that had affected him and for which he had left the embassy in France to retire to Isla Negra and to finish writing his memoirs "I admit that I have lived".

In fact, specialists had discovered a toxin in a molar, called Clostridium botulinum, better known as the botulinum toxin that produces clostridium, which is considered the microorganism responsible for botulism.

Chilean human rights judge Paola Piazza recently recalled that laboratories specializing in bacterial genomics studies have been commissioned to find out if he was a lab-grown bacterium.

"The new team of experts must clarify the circumstances regarding the discovery of Constridium botulinum in the poet's bones," she emphasized.

The body of the author of "Twenty Love Poems" was exhumed on April 8, 2013 on the beach of Isla Negrasm where Neruda rests next to Matilde Urrutia, his last wife.

Fifty years ago, the official version of Neruda's death spoke of prostate cancer, although his physical condition left no doubt that it could lead to imminent death.

Therefore, today, it is strongly suspected that Neruda may have been killed by the regime of General Augusto Pinochet.

The National Coordinator of the Supreme Court of Chile for Human Rights, Mario Carrozza emphasized that "we must put an end to an investigation that seems to us to have been transcendental since in this case there is evidence that allows the third panel of experts to determined whether or not a substance could be decisive for the death of Pablo Neruda".
