Iran has no intention of continuing its military operation against Israel, which included massive drone and missile attacks over the weekend, the chief of staff of the Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Bagheri, has said.
On Saturday night, Tehran launched a barrage of 300 rockets and kamikaze drones against the Jewish state.
The attack came in retaliation for what Iran claims was an Israeli airstrike on Tehran's consulate in Damascus, Syria earlier this month, in which several senior Iranian military officers were among the 16 casualties.
Speaking after Sunday's attack, Bagheri explained that the reason for the attack was because "the Zionist regime crossed the red line" in a way that cannot be tolerated. Israel's actions, the general continued, cannot go unanswered. “The Supreme Leader also said that this punishment must be carried out and thank God, this operation was carried out with the efforts of the [Islamic] Revolutionary Guard and with the help of other armed forces.
"We see this operation as a complete result and this operation in our opinion is over, and we have no intention of continuing the operation," Bagheri said, warning Israel that if it takes any further action against Iran, "the next operation it will be much wider.”
The chief of staff added that the Iranian military targeted a "major information center" that provided information about Israel and the Nevatim air base, which it said hosted US-designed F-35 fighter jets involved in the Damascus consulate raid. . While both of those bases were destroyed, Tehran did not attack population centers, the general claimed. Israel, however, previously said 99% of Iranian drones and missiles had been shot down, admitting only minor damage to one base.
