Six Albanians have been handcuffed by the authorities in Australia because they had set up several bar houses in areas near Melbourne, while a large amount of drugs was seized.

Australian media reports that a real estate agent has been arrested by federal investigators after finding houses for Albanians, who then fill him with cannabis.

Melbourne real estate agent Joe Tumino is accused of using his profession to secure four rental properties for the crime ring in Melbourne's southeast.

The 59-year-old allegedly targeted homes owned by foreign investors who were unlikely to carry out inspections in person and rented them to members of the organized crime network, who converted them into homes for growing cannabis.

Footage taken by investigators at one of the homes shows potted cannabis plants sitting on milk crates in a dimly lit room. The floors and walls are covered with white plastic sheets with lights installed in the ceiling.

Thick foliage covers most of the room, and a makeshift watering system consisting of a barrel and some rubber tubing sits in one corner. Large chemical canisters are stacked on a shelf and the carpet and walls are stained with dirt and watermarks.

Australian Federal Police believe Tumino worked for 36-year-old Avdi Molla, an Aspendale Gardens builder who is believed to be the ringleader. Investigators allege Molla, who was born in Albania, is connected to known international organized crime figures in his native country and was coordinating the drug cultivation operation in suburban Melbourne.

Officers raided Molla's home last June and found an An0m-enabled device, $270,000 in cash and five designer watches hidden in a roof cavity. An0m was an encrypted messaging app developed and used by the AFP and FBI for a global crime crackdown. Officers also discovered more than 80 cannabis plants, weighing a combined 96 kilograms, at two homes in Keysborough linked to the syndicate. They arrested two people in connection with the operation.

Two more houses were later discovered in Burwood East and Keysborough, where they found more than 20 plants and 11 seedlings. Molla and two other accomplices, 46-year-old Emiliano Paron and a 23-year-old woman from Dandenong, were arrested more than a year later, in August 2022. Molla was accused of directing the activities of a criminal organization, drug cultivation. Paron and the woman were charged with drug cultivation.
