The macabre event that shocked public opinion in Italy has been revealed: the body of Maria Denisa Paun, also known as "Adas", a 30-year-old Romanian escort who lived in Rome, was found on June 4 in a wooded area near an abandoned house in Montecatini Terme.
The body was hidden among the bushes, headless and partially burned. Denisa had disappeared on the night of May 15 in Prato.
Just a few hours after the macabre discovery, the Carabinieri arrested a 32-year-old Romanian, Vasile Frumuzache, resident of Monsummano Terme, married with two children. He worked as a security guard and was considered armed and very dangerous. The arrest was made in an operation coordinated by the GIS special units and the Prato Prosecutor's Office, Italian media report.
Frumuzache admitted to the crime, stating: "She was blackmailing me, so I killed her."
How did the murder happen?
According to the investigations of the Prato Public Prosecutor's Office and the Florence Carabinieri, led by prosecutor Luca Tescaroli, Denisa was murdered on the night of her disappearance in room 101 of a residence on Via Ferrucci in Prato, where she was waiting for clients. A security camera recorded the perpetrator entering the residence at 10:50 p.m. with a black bag and staying there for more than two hours.
At around 1:05 a.m., the camera recorded him again leaving with Denisa's white suitcase. Inside it was the woman's lifeless body, which was then transferred to the trunk of the perpetrator's Golf.
Body discovery and evidence
The body was found on the morning of June 4, in a wooded area not far from the "Le Panteraie" club, thanks to the GPS tracking of the perpetrator's car, installed by the insurance company. Just a few meters away, the white suitcase was also found.
The arrest warrant for Frumuzache was issued based on camera footage, analysis of phone records and GPS positioning. The prosecution suspects that he acted alone, but the ultimate motive for the crime remains under investigation.
A tragic end for Denisa
Denisa, who had arrived in Prato three days before her disappearance, was planning to travel to Bologna for other work meetings. But her sudden disappearance and the statements of witnesses who had seen her distressed that evening alarmed her family and the authorities. Her mother reported her missing on May 17.
This case has once again raised the alarm about the danger and violence that accompany women on the path of prostitution, as well as the need for stronger institutional protection and intervention.
