Armed with a knife and two hammers that he had just stolen, a man threatened passersby in the center of Romano. The protagonist of the incident was a 30-year-old Albanian, who had completely lost control, probably due to drug use. He was stopped by officers of the municipal police of the eastern area of Bassa.
The behavior of the 30-year-old, who was already known to law enforcement, was very alarming. The incident occurred on the afternoon of September 18, near a business that also had a bus stop, where many high school students were waiting for the bus at that moment.
The operations center received calls from several citizens who were threatened with a folding knife by a man who was clearly in serious condition. Patrols located in the area were immediately dispatched to the scene.
When the officers, coordinated by Commander Arcangelo Di Nardo, arrived, the 30-year-old had already left. However, the analysis of the security camera footage of a business made it possible to identify him and launch a search. The rapid intervention allowed the officers to locate him a short time later in Piazza Papa Giovanni XXIII. At the time of his arrest, he was holding a large hammer in each hand.
Not without difficulty, the officers managed to take the hammers from the 30-year-old, thus avoiding an escalation of the situation. During the search, a folding knife, 8 centimeters long, and about one gram of cocaine were found.
Investigations subsequently enabled the police to determine the origin of two hammers, which had been stolen that same morning from a van owned by a worker who was carrying out work in the area.
The investigative activity, through taking statements from the people involved and reviewing security camera footage, enabled officers to reconstruct a series of other episodes that had occurred during the same day, with attacks and threats against three other people, who then filed official reports./Corriere
