A ruling by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in the US has suspended the order forcing the US administration to reopen registrations for the US Green Card Lottery for 2027.
According to Newsweek , a panel of judges granted the US government's urgent request to suspend a lower court's ruling, which had ordered the State Department to open registrations for the program before November 1.
The new ruling allows the Trump administration to keep the application process on hold while the appeal is considered. The court found that the plaintiff had not sufficiently argued its legal right to challenge the suspension of the program.
However, the matter has not been finally resolved and the decision does not constitute a permanent cancellation of the American Lottery.
The Diversity Visa Program provides for the issuance of up to 55,000 visas per year to citizens of countries with low levels of immigration to the U.S. At present, there is no new date for the opening of applications for 2027.
