Koçiu's troubles as minister and the real troubles of police
Minister of Interior, Albana Koçiu

When news of the dismissal of Deputy Interior Minister Andi Mahila appeared in online media on Monday, on the grounds that he had been photographed smoking a cigarette in a closed environment, few believed that in the plethora of information, sometimes false and sometimes in the form of memes, this news was true.

But that's how it happened.

A few hours later, the Minister of Interior herself, Albana Koçiu, makes the reason for the dismissal of the deputy minister, who had previously held this position as superiors, Bledi Çuçi, Taulant Balla , and Ervin Hoxha , even more ridiculous .

Without mentioning his name in any of the lines, the minister said that she had received a complaint from an Albanian compatriot in New York. She did not indicate either the time when she received the complaint or the time when the deputy minister smoked a cigarette in a closed environment.

However, the minister says that after conducting the relevant verifications, she communicated the dismissal to the deputy minister. In the same reaction, Koçiu does not mention Andi Mahila's name at any time, but emphasizes that 'the mistake he made is unforgivable'.

Without entering into the debate about whether tobacco was consumed in prohibited environments or not, Albana Koçiu's announcement about Andi Mahila's dismissal is too 'Nordic' to be taken seriously in the Albanian reality.

...a reality where police officers stay on duty for 12 hours and wait for weeks and months for their allowances.

A reality where the performance of the police is measured by the amount of fines they issue on the country's roads, with and without violations. A reality where police leaders end up at the doors of SPAK with accusations of collaborating with gangs, or worse yet, being part of gangs.

These are the essential problems of citizens and not the Deputy Minister of the Interior's cigarette, which, more than a reason, was found to be an alibi to remove him from office.
