Heavy industry, INSTAT: We produced less oil and minerals, only cement recorded

Oil and mineral production declined during 2023, compared to the previous year. According to the results of the Survey of Industrial Products, published by the Institute of Statistics, the decrease was noted both in quantity and in value, while for the group of heavy industry, an increase was noted only for the cement product. Data for this group include the production of crude oil, iron, steel and other primary forms, chromium ores and concentrates, cement and concrete.

According to INSTAT data, a total of 6,141,026 tons of products were produced for this group in 2023, or 3% less, compared to 2022. Meanwhile, the value of sales decreased by 9.5% during 2023, in compared to a year ago. However, the value of sales is not directly related to the quantity produced, as it refers to the amount invoiced from the sale of industrial products during the reference year, regardless of the time of production.

The most significant decline was recorded by ores, chrome concentrates and concrete, as for crude oil, the data show a decrease of 10,664 tons during 2023, compared to 2022. Meanwhile, as for cement, its production seems to reflect the construction trend, since in 2023 almost 590,000 tons more were produced than in 2022.

INSTAT's survey on industrial products is carried out with annual frequency near extractive and processing industry enterprises and aims to provide information on the production and sale of industrial products made by enterprises that carry out their economic activity in our country.
