The data published by the "Barometer of the Balkans 2024" show that Albania is one of the countries with the greatest desire for immigration, where a significant part of citizens want to live and work abroad. According to the analysis carried out by "Scan Intel", the figures provide a clear overview of the preferences of Albanians for the next five years, making the European Union the most preferred destination.

In 2024, about 50% of Albanians have expressed that they prefer to go to live in one of the countries of the European Union, ranking Albania as the country with the highest percentage in the region for this preference. Meanwhile, 31% of Albanians have expressed their desire to immigrate to the United States of America, a significant figure compared to other Balkan countries. On the other hand, only 11% of Albanian citizens prefer to live and work in the Western Balkans, showing a relatively low interest in this region as a destination.

In a broader regional view, Kosovo leads with 61% of citizens who prefer to live or work in the European Union, while Montenegro is second with 44%. In contrast, Bosnia and Herzegovina has a low percentage of citizens who prefer to immigrate to the United States at only 18%, while Montenegro has the highest percentage for this destination at 32%. Meanwhile, Serbia shows a lower interest in the European Union, compared to Albania and Kosovo. On the other hand, 36% of Montenegrins have expressed the desire to live or work in one of the countries of the Western Balkans, thus ranking first among the other peoples studied.

While a year ago, the responses of Albanians in the "Barometer of the Balkans 2023" show that 49% of them expressed their willingness to live and work abroad. This percentage was higher than the regional average, which was 44%. This result implies that for a significant part of the population, emigration is seen as an opportunity for a better life.

According to official figures, we notice that Albania demonstrates a clear trend towards emigration to the European Union and the United States, leaving behind the Western Balkans as a less preferred destination for emigration.
