The BE train is the last

Listen,

The European integration train has gone far. We didn't catch it when it was at the station. Now it reminds me of the story of an Albanian film, where the heroic driver, beautifully played by Mr. Timo Floko, got into his Skoda and followed the train along the highway from Dragostuni to catch it. Or like the cowboy movies that follow the train through the savannah, riding it from the roof!

In the 90s until 2005 it was for riding, now we ride a horse, a donkey or a Czech Skoda to catch the electric train!

Why was he at the station then and the political class not only didn't catch him, but also pretended to get on, but didn't want to.

1. At that time, Kosovo was unfortunately under Serbia. It was a tragedy. But, paradoxically, the issue of Kosovo-Serbia relations was not being addressed, nor Serbia-Albania, nor Kosovo-Albania. Now the point has come that this three-way relationship, without being resolved, must follow the donkey train.

2. Back then, the utopia of a United Europe was enthusiastic among European peoples, and the bar of European collective psychology was raised. Whoever got in got in. Now nationalist movements express a somewhat Eurosceptic European opinion. Different segments are allergic to foreigners who come and then take their jobs.

3. It was not noticed then, but today the leaders of various countries are complaining that countries have become so big that the European bureaucracy has become like a huge animal emerging from the sea. They do not want to further complicate the structure of the EU.

4. At that time, there was no Brexit, nor any risks of exiting the EU. Someone or some influential people are afraid today that not including Albania risks the exit of a country whose political situation is such that it risks exiting the EU.

5. Twenty years ago, the EU and the US were strong allies and you could be both NATO and the EU, and you could be both a strategic ally for the EU and America. But today, you know what the alliance is like. It's very difficult to sit on two chairs.

6. In the 90s, the EU was still afraid of communism and the revival of the Warsaw Pact. It wanted to attract the satellite countries of the former Soviet Union or former communist countries towards itself. The opportunity to benefit was great. Now, it is not even afraid of any revival of communism.

7. Back then, the EU didn't have any wars on its borders. Today, Ukraine and the Russian attack on it have brought the EU's attention there. As well as serious concerns with Iran.

8. In the 90s, Albanian crime was weak, Albania was not known in the international arena for drug networks, etc. But today, come face this danger that the EU thinks comes from us!

That's why the train has left. When it blew the horn at the station, the siren, we drank brandy with the railway guard in his hut. We were corks! Now we pretend to be on horseback trying to catch the speeding train, and all we hear is the chuu chuu of the steam exhaust!
