The Minister of Defense Niko Peleshi spoke again about the situation of fires in our country and criticized the mayors.

Peleshi stated that the chain of reaction does not work properly because according to him, the mayors expect the situation to worsen and then call the Ministry of Defense and ask for a helicopter to put out the fires, while they themselves do not engage.

Further, Peleshi added that it is not wise to invest 50 million euros in a firefighting aircraft, such as the plane that came from Greece and is used only one month in the summer.

It is important to react from the municipalities and then definitely when it comes to the issue that the municipalities with their capacities can not afford, the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces coordinates all capacities in all institutions including the capacities of the armed forces and when our opportunities are exhausted it is the European Civil Protection mechanism which reacts and supports all the countries of the European Union but not only. The emergency mechanism responded very quickly to us in the case of Sazan with a vehicle Greece that had quite an effect, but the fires are eventually extinguished by the soldier who is sometimes ridiculed, but who does irreplaceable work neither by plane nor by helicopter. Today I started a tour for meetings with mayors, mayors and civil structures and emergencies to remind you of legal obligations but also to commit ourselves for a good cooperation. This is how the national civil protection agency works, it does not have its own capacities, it does not have its own means, but it is the institution that coordinates everything to respond to cases of civil emergencies. The queue starts from the village elder and then all the others. The Ministry of Defense has allocated this year 10 million dollars for Civil Emergencies for municipalities not everywhere, it has been used properly and with the right intelligence or responsibility. We have our domestic air capacities which are limited and there is nothing to hide, the financial tact of Albania is not to buy planes to put out fires, they cost 50 million euros, it is not a job that we do not have 50 million euros, but such tools require maintenance capacity, but maintenance costs more than a helicopter. "It's not smart to spend so much money on a tool that you will only use for a month in the summer."- declares Peleshi
