Murder of Martin Cani / Appeal partially reopens the case, requests
Mario Perlleshaj, Martin Cani

The Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction ordered a new psychological evaluation for Mario Përlleshaj, the suspected perpetrator of the murder of minor Martin Cani near the "Fan Noli" school in Tirana, as well as the injured Luis Mece.

Përlleshaj was sentenced by the Tirana court to 16 years in prison for murder in other aggravating circumstances against Martin Cani, as well as guilty of attempted murder in other aggravating circumstances against Luis Meçe.

He has appealed the decision, and for this reason the case is being reviewed in the Appeals Court, where during the discussions the trial panel assessed that a new psychological report should be conducted for the suspected perpetrator and the injured party from the criminal offense.

Two psychologists appointed by the court will contact Përlleshaj and Meçe and will draft a report on their psychological condition.

The report is expected to be discussed at the session on July 1. Martin Cani was stabbed to death near the "Fan Noli" school in Tirana. His friend Luis Mece was also injured. The prosecution's investigations led to the indictment of the minor Mario Përlleshaj, who turned out to have acted alone.

The serious incident was followed by protests from parents who called for safety in schools.
