Head of the Supreme Court, Sokol Sadushi: Judges should not decide to satisfy
Sokoli Sadushi

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Sokoli Sadushi, in his speech during the National Conference on the Interaction of the Justice System with the Media, emphasized the importance of deepening reflection on the role and responsibilities of every magistrate in the exercise of his or her duties. He underlined that every magistrate must exercise his or her profession with high professionalism, complete integrity and a clear awareness that justice cannot function disconnected from public trust.

According to him, this trust constitutes the foundation on which the authority of justice institutions is built. "Young magistrates, entering this profession is accepting a public responsibility that requires knowledge, character and awareness of the impact that justice has on people's lives," declared Sadushi, emphasizing that the path of justice is a long-term and ongoing commitment.

He added that legal knowledge is only the first step of this professional path, while the real challenge lies in the ability to preserve the truth and not succumb to the pressures of the moment.

" Justice is not sustained by the innovations of the moment, but by the values on which it is built ," he said, emphasizing that integrity and ethical principles are more important than any temporary circumstances.

Sadushi also noted that one of the fundamental qualities of a magistrate is impartiality, which should guide every judicial decision-making. He emphasized that behind every judicial file lies a complex human reality.

"Understand that legal knowledge is only the beginning of your path. The files you will have in front of you are not just procedural acts; behind every file there is a person, a family, a business, a public interest, a human anguish that seeks answers," said the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

He added that the most difficult decisions are not those where the law is unclear, but those where human circumstances, public pressure, and the weight of consequences confront the judge with great professional and moral challenges.

In this context, Sadushi emphasized that the most important quality of a magistrate is not only legal intelligence, but the ability to remain impartial and to accept that no one is infallible. He added that humility is one of the most important elements that should accompany professional knowledge.

" Humility is the best companion of knowledge ," he said, describing this principle as fundamental in the proper exercise of duty.

Speaking about the relationship between justice, the media and the public, Sadushi stressed that magistrates operate in a time where information spreads quickly and public perception is often formed before institutional decisions. According to him, this should not be a source of fear, but rather an increased awareness of professional responsibility.

" You will not make decisions to please public opinion, but to serve the law ," he declared, underlining the independence of the judicial system from external pressures.

He acknowledged that in this profession there will be moments of loneliness and challenge, where external noise cannot provide real support. However, according to him, inner strength and professional calm are the elements that keep a magistrate strong.

"You will be serving at a time when word spreads quickly, perception is quickly formed, and public judgment often precedes institutional judgment. This should not scare you, but it should make you aware. The media, social networks, and technology will continue to change. The task of a magistrate, however, remains the same. You will not make decisions to please public opinion, but neither to oppose it. You will make decisions to serve the law. This mission will not always be easy. There will be days when you will feel alone, not because you will not have colleagues around, but because there are decisions that no one can make in your place. In those moments, the noise coming from outside will not help you, but the calm you have built within yourself. That is where the true authority of a magistrate is measured," he emphasized.
