The guard of the Tirana Court of Appeals was arrested moments after the serious crime that shocked the entire public opinion, the shooting death inside the courtroom of Judge Astrit Kalaja.
The Security Officer standing at the door of the Appeals Court failed to check the perpetrator, 30-year-old Ervis Shkambi, who entered with a firearm, a "Beretta" type pistol, and remained armed in the courtroom until the verdict was delivered.
He shot three times at Judge Kalaja, who ruled against him, and also wounded a father and son who were slightly opposed in the property process.
Courts in the country are guarded by private security companies and have electronic scanners at their entrances to identify prohibited items. It is unclear how security failed in this case.
