The fire on Mount Shpirag in Berat has been brought under control after hours of on-site engagement of around 100 firefighters and a "Cougar" helicopter.
The fire broke out yesterday evening and the flames spread rapidly due to the strong wind.
Defense Minister Niko Peleshi says that the situation has been difficult, due to the rugged terrain.
"The situation is under control and the fire is moving towards complete isolation on Mount Shpirag, in the municipality of Berat.
In support of the forces on the ground, 50 more troops from the Pošnje ward were engaged, bringing to 100 the number of members of the Armed Forces who are working intensively until its final extinguishment.
Due to the difficult terrain that does not allow intervention with firefighting equipment, the Cougar helicopter came to help in the early hours of the morning, continuing the intervention from the air throughout the day," says Peleshi.
