The Special Court of Appeal has overturned the first instance decision for JM and MD, accused of a "Call Center" fraud scheme, where around 15 million euros were stolen from European citizens.
The appeal has returned the case to the first instance and the trial with another panel of judges.
The GJKKO sentenced the two individuals to a total of 23 years in prison for several criminal offenses, including charges of computer fraud, participation in a structured criminal group, money laundering, and concealment of income.
The fraud scheme through Call Centers was discovered in December 2022 after a SPAK operation in cooperation with Italian authorities.
The two individuals in question were accused of being part of a criminal group that managed to embezzle 15 million Euros through fraud. The victims turned out to be mainly Italian citizens, but their Call Center activities had also expanded to Germany and Spain.
Over the phone, they convinced European citizens to invest in non-existent stock exchanges, with the promise of high rates of return.
