The next hearing for "Sterilization" was held this Wednesday at the GJKKO, where former Minister of Health Ilir Beqaj is also a defendant.

Beqaj stated that he had asked SPAK to issue a ruling on the former serious crimes. According to him, the case he is being tried for was previously investigated and closed by the prosecution, so according to him, the "res judicata principle" grants him innocence.

" I asked SPAK to give me a decision on former serious crimes that it has in its archive. I asked for it five times and they didn't give it to me, I took it to the Assembly because they had sent it to the investigative committee. That decision and the decision of the Tirana Prosecutor's Office are for me an acquittal according to the principle of res judicata, there are also unifying decisions of the Supreme Court. I am accused of theft but there is no figure, SPAK has not justified the new accusation that I accept from the court ", said Beqaj.

During the hearing, Beqaj addressed the prosecutors, saying, " We are not seconds, our lives are not seconds for summary judgment ."

Former minister Ilir Beqaj is a defendant in the sterilization concession case, and on March 18, he was also charged with abuse of office committed in collaboration. Beqaj faces charges of "Abuse of office", committed in collaboration.

The SPAK investigation was conducted for the concession "integrated services for the provision of personalized sets of surgical instruments, the supply of sterile disposable medical material in surgical rooms, as well as the treatment of biological waste and the disinfection of surgical rooms", at the time when Beqaj headed the Ministry of Health. Eight others have also been charged for the sterilization, including former Deputy Minister Klodian Rrjepaj and Concession beneficiary Ilir Rrapaj, both in custody since August last year.
