SPAK refutes Veliaj's lawyers: There is no request from representatives of

The Special Prosecution Office, when asked by the media about the reasons for refusing the permission requested by Mayor Erion Veliaj for an official meeting with representatives of the Monitoring Committee of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, clarified that this request was made without specifying their names.

SPAK also clarifies that no request has been received from representatives of the Monitoring Committee of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.

Clarification for the media

In response to your requests - On 11.11.2025, through a request sent to the Special Prosecution Office, the defendant Erion Veliaj requested permission for an official meeting with representatives of the Monitoring Committee of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe during their visit to Albania, without specifying their names.

The Special Prosecution Office rejected his request on 18.11.2025, basing it on Law No. 81/2020 "On the rights and treatment of prisoners and detainees" (Articles 49 point 1 and 73 points 1 and 2) and Council of Ministers No. 209/2022.

We would like to bring to your attention, despite media reports, that the Special Prosecutor's Office has not received any request from representatives of the Monitoring Committee of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.
