The Special Chief Prosecutor of Albania, Altin Dumani, has concluded a two-day visit to Brussels, where he was received by senior European Union officials. The EU Delegation in Tirana described the visit as “very good”, emphasizing that it reflects the progress of SPAK in the fight against corruption and organized crime.

“Very good two-day visit to Brussels of the Special Chief Prosecutor of Albania, Altin Dumani, who met with senior EU officials: Gert Jan Koopman, Director General of DG NEAR; Salla Saastamoinen, Acting Director General of OLAF; Irena Moozova, Deputy Director General of DG JUST; Marko Makovec, Head of Cabinet of Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos and Alexander Winterstein, Head of Cabinet of Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner ”, reads the announcement of the EU delegation in Tirana.

According to the EU delegation's statement, all interlocutors praised the strength, stability and credibility of SPAK, noting in particular its close cooperation with EU agencies, member states and international partners. The visit is considered as evidence of the consolidated role of the Special Prosecution Office in guaranteeing the rule of law.

The EU Ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato, emphasized the European Union's strong support for SPAK:

“The EU has been and will remain a strong supporter of SPAK in the fight against organised crime, high-level corruption and fraud, as well as in the protection of the EU’s financial interests. Maintaining SPAK’s solid track record under its new leadership in 2026 and beyond will be key to continuing Albania’s progress towards EU membership. This is important for the security of Albania and the EU and for strengthening the rule of law. SPAK cannot do this alone. Other Albanian institutions must also do their part,” said Gonzato.

Duman's visit is seen as a clear signal of European support for justice institutions and as an incentive for the continuation of key reforms that bring the country closer to membership in the European Union.
