SPAK opens 46 files for the elections, Braho: Anyone involved in crime will be

SPAK head Klodian Braho is reporting to the Committee on Civic Initiatives in the Assembly.

He said that SPAK has launched 46 criminal investigations into the last elections, for various irregularities.

"In the last elections, SPAK initiated 46 criminal proceedings. The Special Structure has established a special working group to investigate electoral crimes. We are trying to implement all the recommendations that come to us from internationals. The quality of investigations has only increased, being professional in pursuing criminal cases related to electoral crimes," said Braho.

He further added that the BKH is being restructured, in order to also prosecute crimes related to cryptocurrencies or crimes that have been unusual for Albania.

"The BKH is becoming increasingly important as a structure. We are also filling the positions that we have had vacant. Coordination with international partners is also important for us. We continue to follow up on cases of Albanian citizens who may spread criminality outside Albania," declared Braho.

The Head of the Special Structure stated that SPAK seeks to fulfill all recommendations.

Democratic MP Ivi Kaso raised several questions for the SPAK chief prosecutor, ranging from electoral crime to whether the Special Structure is politically influenced or has any double standards in investigations.

Braho stated that despite allegations of double standards in investigations by SPAK, this is not true.

"Without evidence, we cannot press charges. There is no double standard from SPAK, this is a perception. We start from evidence and anyone involved in crimes will be held accountable for what they did. If there is evidence in a file and it is not looked at, this does not happen. We do not deal with political statements of any party or any person. For SPAK, everyone is equal before the law," said Braho.
