A total of 101 prisoners in Reç prison, in Malësia e Madhe, gained freedom this Wednesday, thanks to the criminal amnesty approved by the Albanian Parliament.
The beneficiaries of the amnesty are persons convicted of minor criminal offenses, as well as those in the final months of serving their sentences. Among those released was Igli Muhameti, who, after being released from prison, spoke to the media about his experience while serving his sentence and the case for which he was arrested.
"We have suffered this prison, it has done us good. I thank the institution of Shkodra, I am very proud, I am also proud of this prison that I have done. It was for narcotics. I was sentenced to 3.4 years and I benefited from 7 months and 20 days. This prison has done me good, because in Albania there is no beating. This country is a mess. I have three children. It was not my place to do so much prison as I have done.
I came out a user and as a rule I had to do up to 6 months. I was sentenced to 7 years of pretense. I was caught with 5 cigarettes. There are many innocent people in prison for domestic violence. The woman went without signs and without expertise and they are in prison for nothing. The conditions here in Shkodër are very good, I was in 302 in Tirana and it was a disaster", said Muhameti.
