The next preliminary hearing for the "Veliaj" case took place today, with the mayor of Tirana, his wife Ajola Xoxa and other defendants as defendants.
The hearing was postponed to December 5 after the Court accepted Veliaj's request to familiarize himself with the documents.
Veliaj said in the hearing that he was denied the right to familiarize himself with the files, while emphasizing that placing him in a cage is degrading treatment and in violation of the ECHR.
Earlier, Veliaj had asked the GJKKO to provide him with a physical copy of the file so that he could prepare for his defense. Veliaj argues that he was not allowed to read a single page and that the USB that was handed over to the lawyers cannot be used in detention.
Veliaj has been in custody since February and is accused of a number of criminal offenses such as money laundering, failure to declare assets, passive corruption in 9 episodes, abuse of office, and bringing prohibited items into the cell.
