Belgian media has published an article stating that the man who was found hanging from a traffic sign along the highway in Anderlecht last week has been identified as an Albanian cocaine trafficker.
According to the newspaper 7sur7 , he was kidnapped, executed and tied up there as a warning to rival groups, although police have not completely ruled out suicide.
Bekim Halilaj is believed to have traveled from his native village of Bicaj, Albania, to Belgium via England.
The 29-year-old's body was discovered on September 28 on the Brussels ring road in Anderlecht.
He was found hanging from a cable behind a traffic sign, the Belgian prosecutor's office considered the death suspicious and opened an investigation.
He was involved in a cocaine trafficking ring. Halilaj is thought to have been executed and hanged as a warning, most likely for the loss of a large cocaine shipment.
