Data published by Eurostat show that in the January-April period, a total of 2,510 requests for asylum were registered by Albanian citizens, in at least one of the European Union states.
The figure represents an 18 percent decrease compared to the first five months of 2022 and a 50 percent decrease compared to 2019.
According to these Eurostat data, there is a continuous downward trend of asylum requests compared to last year, when in total there were 13,200 applications in the EU alone and almost 16,000 more in Great Britain.
Together with the United Kingdom, the total number of applications in Europe reached 30 thousand, the highest level since 2006.
The preferred country for Albanian citizens seeking asylum remains France, with more than 35 percent of requests, followed by Germany with 23 percent, followed by Italy, Greece and Belgium.
