The Association for Consumer Protection accuses the Ministry of Agriculture of hiding the existence of bird flu in the country for at least a week.
"The Association for Consumer Protection and Local Producers has publicly denounced several times, for a week, that cases of dead chickens in Durres were a clean case of bird flu. These statements were based on consultations with the best veterinary specialists in the field as well as honourable professors with whom our Association has long cooperated", it is said in a statement distributed to the media by this association.
This association concludes that two institutions depending on the Ministry of Agriculture have failed to fulfil the task, which is closely related to the food security of Albanians, such as the egg massively used in our tables.
"We call publicly on the Minister of Agriculture to distance herself from the irresponsible conduct of two addiction institutions, the Institute of Food Safety and Veterinary, and the National Veterinary and Plant Protection Authority, which in flagrant violation of the law have allowed for more than 20 days a chaotic situation by failing to reach the final diagnosis in due course", the statement follows.
The association says it is awaiting the decisions of Minister Frida Krifca and also warns indictments in SPAK for abuse of office.
"For actions and not timely actions of the responsible ISUV and AKVMB institutions, the Minister of Agriculture must refer to the competent bodies a clean and impartial investigation as consumer life is endangered. We as an organisation that has primary consumer protection and local producers will expect the distance of the Minister of Agriculture. The opposite will show that the minister is part of the situation created, with consequences for both the consumer and local producers, endangering not only the lives of citizens but also the bird economies in Albania".
This event, according to the association, once again reveals the incompetence of state employees in making the guardian of food security.
