Albania has been the target of cyber attacks several times.

Recently, hackers have defied the government by selling the server data they have.

The move came shortly after the country was hit by another cyber attack originating from Iran, resulting in the blocking of the TIMS system and work at all border points for several hours.

Thus, hackers identifying themselves with the page "Homeland Justice" on social networks offered 800 GB of data for $900.

Meanwhile, another alarm has been raised again, as the next target of hackers may be the banking/financial system and energy.

According to secure information from the Albanian government, the banking/financial system and the energy sector may be the next to risk falling prey to hackers.

Sources of Politiko.al clarify that the banking/financial system and energy will be subject to the publication of hacked materials during these last months through emails containing malware.

In such conditions, the National Authority for Electronic Certification and Cyber Security suggests a full run of security checks according to the guidelines and security criteria required by AKCESK.

Albania severed diplomatic ties with Iran on September 7, saying that investigations have shown that the July cyber attacks were carried out by Iran as a "state aggressor".

Our country is believed to have been targeted because it houses around three thousand members of the MEK organization, which is considered terrorist by Iran. Their shelter in Albania was requested by the great ally the United States of America. Members of this group were even visited by very high American officials such as former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former American Vice-President Mike Pence.

But Albania's punishment, being unprecedented, risks escalating the tense relations with Iran even more. However, the American State Department supported and even praised Albania for the step taken.
