At noon yesterday ( June 16, 2023 ), a video-scandal was published showing Safet Gjici having sex in the office, in the Municipality of Kukës.

 Through a note on his Facebook account, he announced his resignation and spoke of being entrapped by opponents. He blamed the girl in the video, whom he said he had a long-time crush on.

In addition to claiming that they have set a trap for him, he said that he had betrayed the trust of the citizens of Kukes who had voted for him for his second term at the head of the Municipality.

With his dismissal from the post of mayor, it is expected that new elections will be held in Kukës as well. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Edi Rama has not yet reacted to the scandal in question.

This is the latest case of involvement in a sexual affair of the already resigned or dismissed mayor of Kuka Municipality, Safet Gjici, it is not the first in Albania.

The scandal of Shukri Xhelil

The former mayor of Dibra, Shukri Xhelili, was involved in a sexual scandal story in May 2016, after the publication of a surveillance video in the media.

The footage was taken by a 20-year-old woman, who claimed that the mayor had asked her for an intimate relationship in exchange for her employment in one of the subordinate institutions of Dibër Municipality.

Xhelili was initially sentenced to 4 years in prison for the charge of "sexual or homosexual relations while abusing the duty". Then, the Serious Crimes Appeal changed the qualification of the charge, which in the First Degree was that of "passive corruption..." and reduced the sentence to 1 year and 8 months in prison

Then he was released, while the girl who involved him in the scandal, the former journalist of the show that broadcast the video, disappeared from the profession and from public circulation.

Dritan Prifti scandal

A senior political figure, who took the truths of his videos with him, was Dritan Prifti. The one with whom the former minister appeared in intimate moments is his subordinate, a married woman, who had left the country where she had immigrated to work as a director in one of the directorates of METE, which was headed by the priest at the time.

The video was one of the hundreds of hours of footage that the priest had recorded and put on his laptop and that was his strongest evidence in the fight against Ilir Meta, after their final separation in 2010, after more than a decade of working together. in the government and in LSI.

Intimate video, as well as hundreds of other videos, were said to have been deleted by the author himself afterwards, in order not to deliver him to the hands of justice, along with the compromising facts about his public or private life, but the footage deleted by the author , were returned by the experts.

The woman involved in the scandal deleted all her public records and left Albania. The Priest himself died at the age of only 49 shortly after the scandal. He was said to be suffering from a serious illness.

Ylli Pango scandal

Pango u shkarkua një ditë pas transmetimit të skandalit. Ai paditi televizionin TCH që transmetoi videon. Vajza e përfshirë në skandal u largua nga Shqipëria dhe mori azil politik në Francë.

Genc Alizoti scandal

Genc Alizoti became another public official who was involved in a sexual affair. He was the general director of the Albanian Railways, when in 2016, a video circulated in the media, where the LSI official performed shameful acts of an intimate nature in the office. It is suspected that this video was made by Alma Kaçi, of the Gjici scandal.

Alizoti stated that he was under pressure to leave his position, 6 months before he resigned, a pressure that was never made known where it came from. Genc Alizoti, died as a result of a cardiac arrest just a few months after his resignation.
