Rama gives guarantees for Vlora airport: It will definitely open, despite

Prime Minister Edi Rama today participated in the inauguration ceremony of the new direct flight route Tirana-Toronto.

In his speech, Rama praised the progress of tourism and the increase in the number of passengers at Tirana Airport during the years of socialist government.

Further, the Prime Minister stated that his government does not only aim for mass tourism, but seeks to go beyond elite tourism and wealthy consumers.

Rama also spoke about the problems at Vlora Airport, where he said that there is an internal conflict within the company, while praising the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy for the steps taken. Rama assured that this airport will open and function. Rama further mentioned the Gjirokastra airport, for which he said that the competition will open very soon.

"There is a projection, the number of passengers that will potentially enter Albania a decade from now and the number of flights that must respond to this number of passengers. We need to expand our civil aviation system. MIE has taken the right steps and the objective remains unwavering that Vlora airport, another major airport, will definitely open and will not be a prey to disputes within the company.

We are in the final preparation phase to open the competition for the Gjirokastër airport, a tourist and seasonal airport. We certainly have no reason to give up on the Kukës airport.

"Last but not least, we started this task with only 6.5% of the population having access to aviation. 6.5% were traveling by plane when we started the task. While today the figure has increased to nearly 40% who use the plane," said Rama.
