Rama: Residents affected by floods will be compensated

Prime Minister Edi Rama, during the Emergency Committee meeting, reassured citizens affected by the floods that they will be compensated for the losses they have suffered, whether for their homes or their livestock.

He said that the weather conditions that hit the region, but also Albania, led to this situation.

" If the unusual rainfall of the last few days flooded places throughout our region, Albania did not react as it once did when even an ordinary rain would make the world ablaze because today Albania is completely different. When we came to government, the mountain of debts that the rain allies left us as a legacy included part of all the debts from the Shkodra floods. We paid off those debts and have never again incurred debts of this nature with the people. Investments of 250 million euros in the last decade have rebuilt 536 irrigation and drainage canals that were more than halved. They have reinforced the embankments, they have put 12 hydroelectric dams into operation that had stopped working for years.

There are still lessons to be learned and filled. But if the unusual rainfall fell and flooded many countries in the region, today Albania has reacted differently. Today we have significantly increased our response. We have emerged stronger in the face of disasters. Today I want to assure those affected this time, we will uphold every obligation towards them with state dignity, for their homes and livelihoods," he said.

Among other things, he ordered SP deputies to be in the flooded areas to help the residents.

"I want to tell the MPs of the governing majority present at this meeting via Zoom to be engaged today and tomorrow, even after the difficult moment has been overcome, close to the people, for the people, " he affirmed.
