Despite the alarm raised by the ALERT Center about the import of meat for table consumption from Serbia and Turkey, openly violating Regulation 404 of the European Commission, of 2021, making it clear that the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Food Authority do not intend to react, do not even apply the Albanian legislation on eggs.
Sources from the General Directorate of Customs inform that even during the months of July and August 2022, millions of eggs were imported from Turkey and Serbia, which today are on the tables of Albanians, seriously endangering their health, especially from salmonella.
Following the publication of the news about the importation of eggs after the spread of Avian Flu, the Alert Center sent some questions to the National Food Authority, whose answers we are publishing today, as the import continues to not be stopped.
"Based on the Instruction of the Minister of Agriculture No. 2, dated 13.01.2021, Point 2/b, Import Class B eggs are delivered only to the food industry...; Point 48, for Import Category B eggs, where it is emphasized allowing customs clearance and crossing at border points, only for the processing industry and according to the AKU traceability documents, where have all these eggs gone? How many in the industry and where specifically? How much in the market for consumers ?", was the first question for AKU. According to this institution, "Instruction No. 2 dated 13.1.2021, point 1, the letter "gj" defines the egg as " shelled eggs, except for those broken, incubated or cooked eggs that are produced by chickens of the Galusgalus species and are suitable for direct human consumption or for the preparation of egg products". Referring to the EU regulations, the egg certificate is only one, both for the class A egg and for the class B egg. The difference is only in the approval of the salmonellosis control plan by the Brussels structures for exports to the EU".
In this response, the AKU does not indicate whether these imported eggs come from establishments in Turkey and Serbia, which have passed the salmonellosis control from Brussels structures. If so, why does the European Commission not allow their export to EU countries and if not, why do they enter Albania freely and end up on our tables?
However, it seems clear that there is no traceable document to prove and answer the question of where they went.
The second question for AKU was: What are the processing centers, because Class B eggs should only go to processing centers and not to companies or factories that can produce cakes, ice cream, etc., and process them themselves ?
AKU's answer: Referring to Instruction no. 2 dated 13.1.2021, point 1 letter "d" "food industry" means any establishment that produces egg products intended for human consumption, excluding social food suppliers;
But it seems that AKU does not know the instruction in question well, or is not able, or does not want to implement it, probably with the tacit approval of the Ministry of Agriculture. And here's why:
a) larjen, tharjen dhe dezinfektimin e vezëve të papastra ku kryhen;
b) thyerja e vezëve, marrja e përbërësve të tyre dhe heqja e pjesëve të lëvozhgës, membranës;
Ndërsa pika 10 sqaron: "Vezë të përshtatshme higjenikisht për përunim do të konsiderohen vezët;
b) të cilat me ndriçim identifikohet se;
A pranon BE vezë të klasit A nga Serbia e Turqia? Jo!
The same situation, both with the eggs of Turkey and Serbia. From the latter, the rules of the European Union, as well as the Albanian legislation on food safety, orders, instructions and regulations for the egg, are being violated in the name of the "Open Balkans", which according to the AKU, "in the framework of the agreement "Open Balkan", which aims at the free trade of products, taking into consideration the guarantees given by the competent food safety authorities of the two countries, the import-export of food products is developed and the same certificate is valid for export to Serbia".
