A criminal investigation for abuse of office has been launched in relation to the registration of the antitumor drug Nilotinib Pharmascience by the National Medicines Agency, which did not take into account the European Medicines Agency's doubts about the drug's safety, nor the laboratory tests themselves in the initial phase, which proved problematic after application by the Albanian distributor Megapharma and were repeated.
Top Channel learns that criminal proceedings began in early 2026 and on February 2, the Tirana Prosecutor's Office issued a decision to seize documents and samples of the drug Nilotinib 150 mg and 200 mg, for the registration method. This is the decision of prosecutors Ndini Tavani and Arben Agovi, who, after reviewing the acts, determined the need to seize the practice related to the applicant MegaPharma.
As material evidence, a report was kept on the "seizure of items" on February 3, which were administered in bags with a unique code and sealed, left for storage in the "Sample Storage Room" at the Control Laboratory, specifically, it concerns two doses of this drug with 4 types of samples: "Nilotinib Pharmascience, 150mg capsule of two lots, and the 200mg capsule of the other two lots".
Also on the same day, the Tirana Prosecutor's Office seized all original documents, from the moment of application to the approval of authorization by the Ministry of Health, described in these minutes provided by Top Channel.
The procedure for marketing authorization for the drug "NiIotinib Pharmascience" has raised numerous concerns among patients who complain about the use of unsafe drugs. The fact that this drug did not meet the dissolution criteria of the applicants highlighted another issue of how the Medicines Agency allowed the re-run of the analyses for the company Megapharma, and interrupted the procedure for the company Zentiva.
The same medicine, applied by two different operators, has two contradictory positions. The questions are expected to be answered at the end of the criminal investigation./ TCH
