Following the serious incident of February 22 that shook the city of Civitanova in Italy, where 20-year-old Riccardo Mercury drowned at sea, his father Mario has spoken out.

According to Italian media , his father is convinced that his son ended his life in the icy waters of the port of Civitanova last Friday, believing he had killed his mother.

"He thought his mother was dead and made that gesture. He was determined," he told Italian media.

According to family members, on Friday evening they had dinner together to celebrate Ricardo's birthday.

Then, the father left the house and during that time a heated argument broke out between the mother and son.

The argument ended with physical aggression by the young man. The woman, Albana Kastriot, was found by her husband lying unconscious in the bathroom, with serious injuries to her face.

"His mother loved him madly. Even when she was wrong, she always defended him," the shocked father confessed, admitting that the young man had recently had some personal problems related to his relationship. "I told him to go see a psychologist and he said he was ready to go," his father revealed.

Albana Kastriot, of Albanian origin and a resident of Pollenza for years, was initially taken to the Macerata hospital and then transferred to the Torrette regional hospital, where she is expected to undergo maxillofacial surgery.

According to her husband, her condition has improved and her life is out of danger.

Meanwhile, the body of the 20-year-old has been in the morgue of Civitanova Hospital since Sunday.

The family, of Albanian origin and settled in Pollenza for many years, is well-known in the community. In addition to his parents, Rikardo leaves behind his older brother Alessio and grandmother Bedrie.

The father said that there had been arguments between mother and son before, but nothing to suggest that the situation could end in such a tragedy.

The incident has left the local community shocked, while investigations continue to fully clarify the circumstances.
