VOLUNTEER POLICING/ Here's what the government's DECISION foresees!

The Council of Ministers has approved a decision that defines the rules of organization, functioning and scope of action of volunteer policing in Albania.

According to the decision, interested citizens will be able to engage as volunteer police officers, contributing to public safety in close cooperation with State Police structures.

Volunteer policing aims to strengthen cooperation between the community and the State Police, involving citizens in various activities related to order, security and assistance in cases of emergencies.

What is volunteer policing?

A volunteer police officer is a citizen who, without being part of the State Police structures, contributes independently and without pay, up to 25 hours per week, to activities that help the police and the community.

Their engagement will be carried out under the supervision of a police officer, and includes various areas such as:

Maintaining order in mass public activities;

Traffic management in schools or busy areas;

Patrols and monitoring for crime prevention;

Support in schools for student safety;

Information and awareness on environmental protection;

Assistance in search and rescue operations or civil emergencies.

Who can become a volunteer police officer?

Candidates must be Albanian citizens, have completed secondary education, and have no criminal record. Judges, prosecutors, bailiffs, leaders of political forces, and employees of other security services are also excluded from this opportunity.

The application is made to the Local Police Directorate of the district of residence, through a standard form and relevant documents. The candidates who are selected are included in a special list and notified of the further steps of the inclusion.
