The time required to obtain identification documents for Albanian citizens living abroad will be halved.
This was confirmed by the Administrator of the state-owned document production company IdentiTek, during a visit that Interior Minister Ervin Hoxha made to the company's premises. The second innovation is the provision of opportunities for application through mobile offices in the cities where they live.
"IdentiTek has taken two very important initiatives in this regard, the first is to halve the time it will take us to produce these identification documents. We have developed a new technological module, which will be at the service of citizens starting this month, which halve the time required. So, our diaspora citizens will be able to receive identification documents no longer in 30 days, but in 15 days. In addition, we have initiated processes to visit embassies and consulates with the highest diaspora flow to ensure that every process goes smoothly as well as to anticipate any problems we may have in the future", explained IdentiTek Administrator, Freskida Halilaj.
The Minister said that for the first time, elections are being organized for the diaspora. He added that the May 11 elections are approaching and all capacities must be organized to facilitate the entire regime of application and production of passports and identity cards.
"One of the most important processes is the application of Albanian citizens to consulates wherever they are, regarding the provision of identity cards and passports. IdentiTek is at the forefront of this process, which it directs through its operational groups by sending these groups to the consulates and embassies of our country for an application and to facilitate this regime", emphasized the Minister.
"We started in November with the relevant visits to Germany, Italy, Greece, and we have planned, starting in January and in the following months, visits to embassies and consulates of other countries, including the United States of America and Turkey. In cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we will plan the movements, 'Mobile Applications', as we call them; so we send a dedicated group from IdentiTek from the central office, we send them to these specific countries on specific dates and our citizens abroad can have the opportunity to apply beyond embassies and consulates, because there are also countries for which we have a request for applications, but we do not currently have an embassy or a consulate. So we will address these requests, by sending dedicated groups", informed the Administrator.
Measures have also been taken regarding human resources to work at full capacity and anticipate the influx that is expected in the upcoming electoral process. The full production capacity is 6,000 thousand passports and 15,000 thousand identity cards per day.
"Together with the Administrator of IdentiTek, we visited the IdentiTek production area where everything is currently organized to facilitate procedures. Together with Freskida, we made a tour of all the departments where identity cards and biometric passports are produced. The Ministry of Interior and IdentiTek are jointly at the forefront of this process, making it possible to facilitate the application of our citizens in the 2025 electoral process, but also in the voting process and the application of the diaspora vote at foreign embassies and consulates", stated Minister Hoxha during the visit.
The administrator stated that, also due to the electoral process, they are committed to undertaking initiatives that facilitate this very important process.
"During the months of October, IdentiTek has made a very important change for citizens living abroad, by separating the application for an electronic ID card, not necessarily requiring the application for a biometric passport. This has a broad impact on our citizens, because it has significantly reduced costs. As an innovation, it has been very important as well as challenging, because we had to change technical processes in our systems, but also to adapt operations very quickly, but taking into account the very clear instructions from your side, as well as the broad and positive impact it has had on our citizens abroad", Halilaj underlined.
"IdentiTek has been involved in this process. Starting in December, it has also collaborated closely with the Central Election Commission to identify citizens in real time when they will register on the Electronic Registration Platform," said the head of IdentiTek.
