For the first time! Masses are held in the Orthodox Church of Tirana for victims
Mass for victims of the Cham genocide

For the first time, a prayer mass was held in the Orthodox Orthodox Church of Albania in memory of all orthodox Albanians of Chameria who were killed during the genocide of Zervist forces in 1944.

"Albania will avenge me" were the last words of the lawyer Spiro Çalluka, the Albanian education director of Paramithia 80 years ago, when on June 30, 1944 after several days of torture, his eyes were pulled out and dragged by car to the city until his death. Later, along with other Orthodox Albanians of Kumanoline, he was left hanging for three days between the city to give the example that Orthodox Albanians could stay in their homes but would have cruel luck if they declared themselves Albanians.

The ceremony was held in the premises of the Church of Metamorphosis in Tirana in the presence of dozens of believers. The devotion was realized for Spiro and Thoma Çalluka, Gaqo Pasko, Dhimo Kasari, Ilia Nasto, Thimi Gogozoto, Petro Sharra, Ilia Konomi and all other Albanian Orthodox killed by Zervarian forces during the genocide against Albanians of Kukes.

The church's master, Father Christo Sharko, performed the prayer in memory of their names. They all worked for their homeland, Albania, until the last moment of their lives. Especially Spiro Çalluka, the Albanian education leader in Paramithi who died in conditions of inhuman torture, at the age of 87 and was left hanging for three days in the middle of the city, to show other Orthodox Albanians the fate they would suffer if they were declared Albanian.

Spiritual is the Orthodox liturgy that prays to commemorate the dead. This is the first case that in the Orthodox Church of Albania a spirituality is performed for the Orthodox Albanians of Kumeria.
