Edi Rama

After the Oncology scandal, tomorrow Prime Minister Edi Rama will hold a meeting with the heads of services at the "Mother Teresa" University Hospital Center.

The meeting is scheduled to take place in the morning hours, while the head of the government will be in front of the service chiefs of the largest hospital center in the country.

We recall that on June 25, the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana announced a scheme created by doctors of the Oncology ward, for the transfer of tumor patients to private clinics for profit purposes.

Managers and doctors of the Oncology hospital at the "Mother Teresa" University Hospital Center in Tirana, together with specialists and other people, are accused of creating an abusive scheme of transferring patients to private clinics.

"In cooperation with each other, doctors, specialists and the hospital administrator referred patients diagnosed with tumor diseases to private clinics for profit purposes, not offering them the services at the Oncology hospital at QSUNT," is quoted in an announcement by the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana. which was released to the media on June 25.

From the investigation carried out by the prosecutor's office, it was found that patients diagnosed with tumors were not given proper medical treatment and were then directed to private clinics. Likewise, there have been cases of the purchase of drugs of considerable value for chemotherapy, from pharmacies which sold these drugs without the fiscal stamp and with a broken code, creating doubts about the authenticity of these drugs.

The prosecution says that a Cobalt-Therapy Apparatus was installed in the Oncology Hospital at QSUNT for the treatment of patients diagnosed with tumor diseases and especially skin cancer diseases.

The announcement clarifies that in order to be able to use this apparatus, an anti-radioactive or anti-atomic bunker had to be created, according to the conditions approved and presented by the Vienna Atomic Agency or the International Agency, IAEA.

"Investigations revealed that this bunker was not only not created, but the apparatus was placed outside the technical conditions. Since 2021, when this device arrived in Albania and until today, it has not only not been used, but has been left in inappropriate conditions, becoming a source of danger to the medical personnel themselves as a result of the possible radiation emitted by this device. , quoted in the announcement of the prosecution.
